Rebecca Shafee is a scholar of Bangladesh who was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. On July 24, a clip of the 1993-94 national debate on Bangladesh Television went viral on Facebook. In that two-and-a-half-minute clip, a student of Holy Cross School is seen giving a speech in an impeccably beautiful manner. The student’s name is Rebecca Shafee. That video has recently gone viral. The then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia presented the award at the event. Some people are listening to that video more than once. Although it may seem like an ordinary girl’s school speech, there is magic hidden in her throat. In a two-and-a-half-minute speech, the girl says how she has given up one wish after another in her life. The girl explained life in very simple words. She recently completed her postdoctoral training in genetics at the Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and is currently a visiting scientist at the Broad.

She grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and moved to the USA to study physics at Caltech. After finishing her undergraduate studies, she moved to Boston to pursue a Ph.D. in astrophysics at Harvard University under the supervision of Prof. Ramesh Narayan and Dr. Jeffrey McClintock.
Rebecca’s father is Professor Ahmed Shafi of Dhaka University and their mother is Sultana Shafi. She is married and the mother of a girl named Anemia. She is working on the intersection of neuroscience at Harvard Medical School.
