Early Life & Education
Meghranjani Medhi was born in Nalbari, Assam and brought up in Guwahati. She is the daughter of Marami Medhi, a renowned exponent of Kathak and Joyprakash Medhi, a renowned vocalist, composer & music director of Assam.
She did her schooling from Holy Child School, Krishna Nagar, Guwahati. She passed her 10th board from Holy Child School in 2006.
Meghranjani completed her graduation in Education from Cotton University, Guwahati. She completed her graduation in 2010.
She was very much interested in dancing from her childhood life. Meghranjani has passed Nrtiya Nipun in Kathak dance from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow in the year 2009 and secured 1st division.
Career
Meghranjani Medhi is a Kathak Dancer. Meghranjani started learning Kathak at a very tender age of 3 years under the guidance of her mother. Meghranjani first performed her professional dancing program at 5 in Shankardev Kalakhetra, Guwahati. She has also attended numbers of a valuable workshop conducted by the great maestro of Kathak dance Pandit Birju Maharaj and earned blessings from Panditji.
She makes her debut album, ” Lakhimi” (লখিমী), directed by Rajesh Bhuyan. She is a very popular actor in Assamese Film Industry. Her performance in ‘Lakhimi’, ‘Abhimani Mon’,’Purnima’ and ‘Janmoni’ was super hit in this field.
National & International Dancing Career
She has travelled to many countries for a performance like Egypt, Israel, Palestine, UAE, China, New Zealand, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, etc.
She has given performances all over India along with her mother and also performed her solo kathak recital in several prestigious programmes in and outside Assam, which includes-
She has performed in Vasantotsav, 2011 a prestigious festival of Dance & Music held at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi on 6th Feb /2011 and earned laurels from critics and connoisseurs. Her Solo Kathak recital has been telecast by Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati.
Meghranjani performed in Canada on June 2011 at Harbourfront Centre’s Fleck Dance Theatre, Toronto as part of, and commissioned by Luminato, Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity. Her performance as Mumtaz in a dance theatre titled as ‘Taj’ in Toronto Festival of Arts was highly acclaimed by the audiences. The other renowned artists in the production of ‘Taj’ were international Bollywood film, television and theatre star Kabir Bedi and acclaimed Canadian actress Lisa Ray and through exquisite kathak dance choreographed by legendary Guru Kumudini Lakhia.
She has also participated in the different workshop organized by CCRT in various part of the country from time to time. She has secured state highest marks in the subject Kathak in HSLC examination in 2006 from Board of Secondary Education, Assam.
Meghranjani recently visited Egypt, Isreal, Palestine and UAE for performance.
Personal Life
Meghranjani Medhi engaged to an Assamese film actor Neil Das in 2017. The couple got married on 14 February 2021 in Guwahati.
