Early Life & Education

Manu Kumar Jain was born back in 25th January 1981 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He had immense interest in technology from the very beginning of his life. He studied in science stream and perused his B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He completed his B.Tech in 2003.

Later he perused an MBA in Management from ESCP Business School in 2006. Simultaneously he also perused PGDM in Business Management from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta back in 2005 to 2007.

Career, Net Worth

After completion of his B.Tech, he soon started doing a job as a Senior Associate at Headstrong where he used to code and develop software solutions for Investment banks. He worked there for 2 years and left this job in May 2005.

Post this job, he started working at Tata Administrative Services as a Summer Intern where he worked with Tata TeleServices for planning their national rural operations. He worked here as an intern for only about three months and joined McKinsey & Company as an Engagement Manager in 2007 and worked here for about 4 years and 8 months and left in December 2011.

He also had an interest in creating cartoon characters. So he co-created a cartoon series named “DINK Couple” inspired by their real-life experiences between August 2011 and December 2012 at Bangalore.

Finally, in February 2002, he co-founded a company called Jabong.com, an eCommerce platform for various fashion and lifestyle products and it became a big hit. He came in limelight and a lot of people started knowing about him.

When he was working at Jabong, he saw a major spike in traffic on the e-commerce platform and the majority of it was mobile traffic. At this point, Manu Jain realized the power of smartphones in India as more and more people started buying smartphones and was investing a lot of their time on the different online platform and social media. All of a sudden, he developed an interest in running a smartphone brand in India.

Xiaomi was already aware of him and offered him the role of Managing Director and gave him the big responsibility of bringing Xiaomi to India and start its business in India. Manu Kumar Jain soon proved his ability in business by making Xiaomi, India’s number one smartphone brand in terms of sales. Now he is also the Global Vice President of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Indian Subcontinent- India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Currently, Xiaomi is the No. 1 smartphone brand in India in terms of the total number of smartphone sales.

In between co-founding Jabong and becoming the MD of Xiaomi India, Manu Jain also became a Board Member of a couple of other organizations such as KrazyBee and Hungama.

He has also featured in Fortune and Economic Times 40 under 40 lists. Manu Jain also received top executives under 40 award from Business Today, GQ’s 50 most influential young Indians by GQ. Philanthropy

On April 22, 2021 Manu Kumar Jain tweeted from his profile that on the rising Oxygen requirement due to Covid19, the Xiaomi India, donated Rs.3 Crore to procure 1000+ oxygen concentrators for hospitals across states.

Also announced that they partnered with Give India, a non profit organization to raise 1 crore rupees for covid warriors.
