Pennington suffered a fatal reaction after consuming just 1 g of MDMA while “experimenting” with the drug.
He was rushed to the hospital but died 24 hours later. Police initially believed that Luke had been taking so-called Spice, the so-called ‘zombie drug’, but post-mortem tests showed that he died as a result of MDMA toxicity.
Suspect arrested
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of possession with the intention of supplying Class A drugs, but no further action was taken against him.
Today, an investigation heard the tragedy on March 17, 2018, after Luke and other children were staying at a home in Stockport, Greater Manchester.
The group bought the substance that same night, and then at the house, Luke, from Bramhall, took it first, followed by a friend, and both fell ill.
Police report
Det Ch Insp Christopher Downey of Greater Manchester Police told the Stockport hearing: “Luke and his friends were eager to experiment with drugs, and they all willingly agreed to buy them.
“Nobody knows how they would react to drug use. MDMA is known as a party drug, but it can have tragic consequences. Luke and his friends wanted to experiment with drugs. Luke was confident and was leading the other boys.
“None of the adults in his life had a clue what he was going to do that night. He is from a very loving family. The parents and family of those who had the pajama party are not to blame for this.
