James Earl Carter Jr. is an American former politician who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975 and as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967.

Jimmy Carter was born on 1 October 1924. His birth name is James Earl Carter Jr. He was born to a father, James Earl Carter Sr., and a mother, Bessie Lillian. His birthplace is in Plains, Georgia in the United States. He holds American nationality. He had 3 siblings, Gloria, Ruth, and Billy. All three of his siblings died of pancreatic cancer.
He attended Plains High School from 1937 to 1941. He then started undergraduate coursework in engineering at Georgia Southwestern College in nearby Americus. He transferred to the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 1942.

He then served as the governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.

He announced his candidacy for President of the United States in December 1974.
He later went on to serve as the president from 1977 to 1981.
He ran for President of the United States for the second time. However, he was defeated by Republican Ronald Reagan.
After his presidency, he remained active in the private sector.
He founded the non-governmental and non-profit organization, Carter Center in 1982.
