Born in a Muslim background family Ouattara received a bachelor’s degree in science in 1965 from the Drexel Institute of Technology. Then he completed a master’s in economics in 1967. In addition, he obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in economics.

Alassane Ouattara tied a knot with Dominique Nouvian in 1991 is a French businesswoman. Nouvian was born Jewish but later became Catholic. Their wedding ceremony was held in the town hall in Paris. Together the couple has two children named Fanta Ouattara and Dramane Ouattara.
