Vikas Divyakirti Career
After completing his Master of Arts degree, he made the decision to take the UPSC examination. In 1996, he took the UPSC examination and remarkably cleared it on his first attempt, securing the 384th rank with sociology as his optional subject. Although he achieved success, his aspirations to serve as an Assistant Commandant of the CISF were dashed when he was deemed medically unfit due to his flat feet. Undeterred, he opted to join the central secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs instead.
The following year, he made his second attempt at the UPSC examination but unfortunately could not clear the main examination. Nonetheless, he persisted and pursued his Ph.D. while preparing for his third attempt. This time, he chose philosophy as his optional subject; however, he fell short in the interview round. In 1999, he received a joining letter from the central secretariat, but he decided against accepting the offer. Eventually, due to mounting debts, he reluctantly joined the civil service, viewing it as an opportunity to alleviate his financial burdens.
Assigned to a post in the home ministry, he specifically requested to work in the Rajbhasha department. As a result, he was appointed as a desk/section officer in that department. Unfortunately, after only six months of service, he decided to resign from his position. In 2003, he made his fourth and final attempt at the UPSC examination. However, despite his efforts, he once again fell short of qualifying for the examination. Interestingly, during this attempt, he was simultaneously teaching at his own coaching institute called Drishti IAS.
Vikas Divyakirti established IAS Coaching Classes in Delhi in 1999 for simple coaching for UPSC exam students. Vikas is also the editor of the current affairs monthly magazine called Drishti Current Affairs Today.
In 2017, he established a YouTube channel named Drishti IAS. uploads study material, lectures, and exam preparation strategy videos. He has more than 6 million subscribers on his channel. He has also written many books.
According to the news, he founded Drishti IAS after he was dismissed from the post of Hindi lecturer at Shivji College at Delhi University. He started Drishti IAS by borrowing Rs 15,000 from his friends and hired chairs and classrooms to start coaching classes. He started giving lectures in Hindi due to which it became easy for the students to read and understand. About 11 to 15 students came in their first batch.
