Shuchanda is a legendary female film actress and director of Bangladesh who won the Bangladesh National Film Award. She began her acting career in the mid-1960s and performed in more than 100 movies. She is the elder sister of Bobita and Champa as well as the wife of  Zahir Raihan. She is more successful in film direction than in acting.

Shuchanda Early Life:

Shuchanda was born on September 19, 1947, in Jessore, Khulna, Bangladesh to father ASM Nizamuddin Ayub and mother Begum Jahan Ara. She studied at Dhaka City College and completed her HSC from the college. She comes from a film-loving family where most of the family members are associated with media arenas like her sister Bobita and Champa are an actress as well as her cousin Riaz is an actor.

Shuchanda Career:

Shuchanda made her debut in the film industry with the movie ‘Kagojer Nouka’ in 1966 directed by Subhash Dutta. Following the year, she made an outstanding acting performance in the movie ‘Behula’ with co-actor Razzak directed by Zahir Raihan. She starred in the Pakistani movie ‘Hum Ek Hain’ and won the Nigar Award from Pakistan in 1987. She made a magnificent acting performance in the historical movie ‘Jibon Theke Neya with Razzak in 1970.

Shuchanda made their debut as a film producer by ‘Teen Kanya’ and as a director by the movie ‘Bidesh Jatra respectively in 1985 and 1998. She made the movie ‘Hajar Bachhor Dhore’ based on the story of the novel ‘Hajar Bachhor Dhore’ written by her husband Zahir Raihan and won the National Film Award as the best director in 2005.

Personal Life:

Shuchanda married the renowned filmmaker Zahir Raihan in 1968. She has a son named Topu Raihan by her first marriage. After the death of Zahir Raihan in 1972, she married M Reazaul Malik in 1976. Shuchanda has a son and three daughters from the second marriage.
