Shehla Rashid is a well-known Indian politician and activist of origin from Jammu and Kashmir. She is considered one of the brave women who has been talking about the human situation in Kashmir. In recent, Shehla posted on social media about the situation in Kashmir accusing the Indian Army abuses human rights in Kashmir. After the abrogation of Articles 370, the Kashmir police has no authority on the law and order situation.
Shehla Rashid Early Life & Education:
Shehla Rashid was born on April 30, 1988, in Habba Kadal, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. There is no detailed information about her father but the mother is a nurse in Srinagar’s SK Institute of Medical Science (SKMS).
Shehla received a degree in computer engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. Then she completed a certificate course in political leadership from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. She enrolled at the Jawaharlal Nehru University and completed M.A. in sociology. Then completed MPhil in Law and Governance and intended to receive a Ph.D. from JNU.
Shehla Rashid Career:
Shehla Rashid worked as a software engineer in HCL Technologies after completing graduation. She is a women voice from Kashmir about human rights. Shehla contested as a vice president of the JNU student union as the Left-backed All India Students Association, finally won this election beating the ABVP’s candidate Valentina Brahma.
Controversies:
In February 2017, AMUSU, a student union of Aligarh Muslim University filed an (FIR) against her accusing that she used objectional language about Muhammad, the prophet of Islam.
On February 16, 2019, she claims that 15-20 Kashmiri girls were trapped in the hostel in Dehradun for hours. Police denied her allegation as a rumor and filed a lawsuit against her under sections 504, 505, and 153b of the Indian Penal Code.
Again, Shehla Rashid tweeted that the Indian Army was torturing the Kashmiri people as a consequence of the abrogation of Articles 370. Later the army rejected her allegation as baseless. Alok Srivastava, a Supreme Court Lawyer filed an FIR under an offense of sedition.
