He was admitted to Tangail Bindubashini Government High School and studied up to class two. Then Selim comes to Dhaka, in the city he was admitted to Motijheel Ideal School and completed SSC from the School. He studied at Jahangirnagar University; during university life, he joined Dhaka Theatre in 1983.

Then he acted in lots of television dramas including Lilaboti directed Humayun Ahmed, Pother Dabi based on the novel of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Selim also directed many dramas and telefilm in the showbiz arena of Bangladesh.
He is a pioneer in the sector of the digital film arena who made four digital films in the country like Mixed Culture, Abinashi Shabdorashi, Ekjon Ajmal Hossain, and Chicago Hridoy.
