At the age of 8, Mehedi started playing cricket. He joined Kashipur Cricked Academy which passed on him to the under-14 National Cricket Tournament.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz made his debut in first-class cricket against the Rajshahi Division cricket team on 16 February 2015 and scored 51 runs and took 4 wickets. He participated in the Bangladesh Premier League 2016 on November 9, 2016, playing for Rajshahi Kings.
Mehedi made his Test cricket debut against powerful England on 20 October 2016. In the series, he made history earning the man of the series title as a debutant player. Mehedi has three 5-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul in the high-profile series.
In December 2016, he was chosen for the ODI squad of the Bangladesh team against New Zealand, but he didn’t play any match. On March 25, 2017, Mehedi played his debut match against Sri Lanka. In the match, he took 2 wickets for 43 runs.
