Faruq Mahfuz Anam, known mononymously as James or Guru James, is a Bangladeshi singer-songwriter, guitarist and composer, also known as a playback singer. He is the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the rock band “Nagar Baul”, which he founded in 1977.

James Early Life:
On October 02, 1964, in Naogaon, Bangladesh James was born to his father, Mozammel Haq, and mother, Jahanara Khatun. Mozammel Haq, James’ father was a government employee and served as a Chairman of the Chittagong Education Board. James was extremely interested in music dome in his primary life, although his parents did not want the boy ever will be a singer, they wanted to make their son a doctor or engineer.
Despite the family’s impediment, he carried on zeal on music. As if, James’ family would not like music, thereby he left out the house for his passion for music and started to live in a dormitory. From this Aziz Boarding dormitory, James’ musical career began and launched a musical brand named ‘Feelings’ with some friends.
James Career:
James started a career as chief and singer of the ‘Feelings’ brand from Chittagong. He transformed the brand ‘Feelings’ as named ‘Nagar Baul’. James made a debut in the music industry with the album ‘Station Road,’ which was released in 1987 under the ‘Feelings’ brand. In 1988, his single album ‘Anonna’ was released and being praised around the country.
James is very much popular in the West Bengal music industry for working as the singer of the Bangladeshi brand; thereby he met with Bengali music director Pritom in 2004 and got a chance to playback in the Bollywood film industry. In 2005, James played back in the Bollywood movie ‘Gangster’ for the first time.
His singing song ‘Bheegi Bheegi’ got a huge success and was on the top chart in Bollywood for more than one month. Now, James frequently has sung for Bollywood films. James also has seen in the TV commercials, first appeared on the TV screen for commercial brand ‘Pepsi’ then acted for an energy drink brand ‘Black Horse’.

Firstly, Bangladeshi famous singer, James got married to Rothi, but they divorced in 2012. Then James married Benazir Sajjad for the second time. James has two daughters and a son. James was arrested at Dhaka Airport on charges of marrying non-adult Benazir Sajjad during coming from the United State. Then, Benazir Sajjad claimed herself as an adult, so James was released from prison.
