Champ was one of two German Shepherds who lived in the White House with the Bidens, along with Major.

He had also lived in Washington when Biden was vice president.

“In our happiest times and in our most painful days, he was there with us, sensitive to all of our unspoken feelings and emotions. We love our sweet, good boy and will always miss him,” the Bidens said in a statement.

In his statement, the family reflected on Champ’s younger days and said the big dog enjoyed chasing golf balls and running after the Biden’s grandchildren.

“In our happiest times and in our most troubled days, he was there with us, sensitive to our every unspoken feelings and emotion,” the Bidens said. “We love our sweet good boy and will always miss him.”

The president and first lady have another German shepherd named Major, a rescue dog they adopted in 2018.

Both canines returned to the White House in March after they were briefly sent to the Biden home in Delaware after Major bit the hand of a Secret Service agent.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the incident occurred when Major “was surprised by an unknown person and reacted in a way that resulted in minor injury to the individual.”

Jill Biden’s press secretary Michael LaRosa said Major received additional training while in Delaware to help him adjust to his new environment.
